5 years on from the electricity switch on are (L>R) Michael Leaney, Norm Aquilina, Rhonda Aquilina, Lynne Anderson, Jayne Hancock and Jim Anderson.

21 December, 1998 was the day that Walhalla joined the modern world...electricity was connected to town.

Sunday 21 December, 2003 marked the 5th Anniversary of Walhalla becoming the last town in Australia to receive a reticulated power supply. At the time in 1998, Walhalla was home to 13 permanent residents (it's now 18) of which 6 still live in the township. To celebrate the event, the six remaining "power" residents got together for a drink at Walhalla's Star Hotel to reflect on the happenings of the past five years.

Since 21 December, 1998 Walhalla has seen people come and go, people be born and people pass on, many more buildings have been built, the train has arrived, the road was closed (twice!), we've had good times and bad times...but Walhalla keeps on going and it was agreed by the "power six" that Walhalla is a much better place with the modern wonder of "electricity".
