Walhalla Sports Ground

The Walhalla community was an active one which supported various sporting clubs and group. A major problem for the town was lack of flat ground for a sports field...the solution was found by cutting the top off a hill high above the valley floor. This unique location meant that sporting events always started with very steep 30 minute walk simply to reach the field. It is said that the Walhalla Cricket Team never lost a home game because they would always camp at the sports ground the night prior to a match. The visitor team would be faced with a hard uphill walk before a game and were "stuffed" before the game even began! Today, you can visited the sports ground by taking the "Zig Zag" track which leaves from the Main Road 200 metres north of the Star Hotel.
